Conservationists and a Tribal group says that the mine threatens endangered species and groundwater flow.
A group of conservationists filed a lawsuit against the Department of the Interior (DOI), attempting to block its approval of the Rhyolite Ridge lithium mine in the state of Nevada. Lithium is a critical component for a variety of clean energy technologies, and supporting this production is a goal of President Biden’s administration. This would be the first domestic source of the critical technology mineral.
However, the Center for Biological Diversity joined Native American Advocacy groups in concerns for the Tiehm’s buckwheat, a local endangered wildflower, but also groundwater flows and the sovereignty of Tribal nations, who revere the location as sacred.
The Interior Department issued the permit to an Australia-based mining company.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For U.S. officials as they pursue clean energy technology and production.
- For wisdom for Secretary Haaland as she oversees the Department of the Interior.
