The new international agreement plans to restore ecological and cultural connections for bison.
The U.S., Canada, and Mexico recently signed a Letter of Intent to strengthen their partnership in conserving the American bison. focusing on restoring the species’ ecological role and reinforcing its historical and cultural significance. Led by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Parks Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Mexico’s Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources, the agreement is part of the three countries’ commitment to cross-border collaboration.
The plan, discussed during the Trilateral Committee for Wildlife and Ecosystem Conservation and Management in San Diego, focused on supporting bison populations, restoring ecological processes, and sharing scientific insights to ensure sustainable bison conservation.
“While the overall recovery of bison over the last 130 years is a conservation success story, significant work remains to ensure that bison will remain a viable species,” said Secretary Deb Haaland. “Our collaborative efforts with Canada and Mexico are an important step forward as we work to restore this majestic species and facilitate the return of bison to Tribally owned and ancestral lands.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Haaland to be led by God as she manages the Interior Department.
- For Interior officials as they collaborate with conservationists and preservationists from Canada and Mexico.
