NASA Identifies Nine Potential Landing Zones for Moon Mission

Continues preparing for Artemis III mission to the lunar South Pole.

NASA has released an updated list of potential landing sites for Artemis III, preparing to send astronauts to the Moon for the first time in 50 years. The nine sites are all located near the Moon’s South Pole, and offer a number of geographic characteristics vital for scientific research and mission viability. For example, each site has a permanently shadowed area that would allow the Artemis III crew to preserve resources such as water and food.

“Artemis will return humanity to the Moon and visit unexplored areas. NASA’s selection of these regions shows our commitment to landing crew safely near the lunar South Pole, where they will help uncover new scientific discoveries and learn to live on the lunar surface,” said Assistant Deputy Associate Administrator Lakiesha Hawkins of the Moon to Mars Program Office.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Assistant Deputy Associate Administrator Hawkins to be prudent as she heads the Moon to Mars Program Office.
  • For NASA Administrator Nelson and other leaders in the agency as they plan and review potential space missions.
