The state alleges the actions of the president’s administration jeopardize public health.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a suit against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, claiming that the president’s administration allowed an illegal immigrant from China with a highly drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis (TB) to enter the U.S. and potentially expose hundreds of individuals. The lawsuit alleges that the DHS secretary, in his official capacity, facilitated the housing of this individual in several Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities, creating an “emergency situation” in the state.
“Millions of undocumented illegal aliens continue to pour across the southern border – unidentified, untracked, and untested for diseases that can threaten the lives of American citizens,” the Louisiana attorney general stated. “The federal government has put the health and safety of Louisiana and American people at risk.“
“The protection of our southern border is paramount to the security of the United States,” AG Murrill said. “It is neither political nor unreasonable that Louisiana has time and time again demanded that the Biden-Harris administration defend this nation.“
The state’s lawsuit seeks to compel ICE to ensure health screenings before releasing detained individuals, as current policies do not guarantee medical clearance. While Attorney General Murrill emphasized the risk posed by undocumented immigrants crossing the southern border unchecked, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry reassured residents that there was no immediate public danger. The infected Chinese national crossed the border and was apprehended in California before being transferred to Louisiana, where a test confirmed a “highly positive” TB result.
Immigration and border security are significant issues in this presidential election cycle.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For DHS and ICE officials to properly and adequately screen foreign nationals as they seek asylum.
- For the Louisiana governor and attorney general as they seek to ensure the public health of their state.
