FAA Issues Final Rule for Air Taxis and Other Electric Aircraft

This is the last step required for introducing new type of aircraft to the public.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued its final rule outlining regulations for air taxis, a new category of aircraft that is usually electric and carries a small number of passengers.

This type of aircraft, which has the potential to improve air ambulance services and transportation to smaller communities, has been in development over the past decade. However, without formal safety regulations, the aircraft were unable to be utilized by the public. The FAA has called its new regulations the “final piece in the puzzle” for the implementation of air taxis into the modern market. The rule outlines training qualifications for instructors and pilots and formal operational requirements.

“The FAA will continue to prioritize the safety of our system as we work to seamlessly integrate innovative technology and operations. This final rule provides the necessary framework to allow powered lift aircraft to safely operate in our airspace,” said FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for FAA Administrator Whitaker as he oversees improvements in the agency.
  • For FAA officials as they provide regulatory oversight of technological advancements in air travel.
