FHWA Allocates Emergency Funds for Hurricane Recovery in Virginia

Initial relief to restore key transportation routes and infrastructure damaged by the storm, including Route 58.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced the release of $10 million in emergency relief funds to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to assist with immediate repairs following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. This funding is intended as an initial “down payment” to help with critical infrastructure restoration, including repairs to roads and bridges that were damaged by the storm. Virginia DOT will use the funds to begin restoration efforts on Route 58 and other affected routes.

“Hurricane Helene’s devastation affected communities in multiple states, including Virginia, and the Biden-Harris Administration is here to support all of them as they recover and rebuild,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. “The Department is deploying this initial $10 million for Virginia to help restore key transportation networks and routes, and we will continue our support for impacted states and communities for as long as it takes to fully recover.”

The FHWA’s Emergency Relief program will provide additional funding as necessary to continue repairs, with a focus on rebuilding infrastructure to be more resilient against future extreme weather events.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That Secretary Buttigieg and Transportation Department officials are discerning in their allotment of funds to rebuild infrastructure damaged by the hurricanes.
  • For Acting Administrator Kristin White as she oversees the Federal Highway Administration.
