The president calls on Congress to reconvene early to approve more funding.
President Biden’s administration approved over $1.8 billion this week to support recovery efforts for communities devastated by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Recovery from the back-to-back storms is expected to take a long time and require significantly more funding.
President Joe Biden stated that the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) disaster loan program, the government’s largest source of disaster recovery funds, will soon run out of funds, as total insurance claims following the storms are estimated to be in the tens of billions. He urged members of Congress to return from recess and address emergency funding.
He said, “They’re gonna have to come back after the election as well. This is gonna be a long haul for total rebuilding.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and his advisors as they assess the damage from the storms and the resources needed to recover.
- For U.S. legislators as they evaluate the federal appropriations already approved and the requests of the president and federal agencies for additional funding.
- For state and local officials as they continue the cleanup and recovery efforts after the hurricanes.
- For God’s strength and comfort for all the survivors of the devastation.
