He expresses concerns surrounding Russia’s actions of sabotage in Europe.
U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s General Darryl Williams expressed concerns this week about reports of nontraditional Russian operations throughout Europe. NATO allies have noted numerous acts of arson, attempted assassinations, and rockets meant for Ukraine flying through NATO airspace to their destinations.
General Williams said that these incidents demonstrate that these new Russian operatives are not “classically trained.” The acts of sabotage appear to be less strategic and less informed, especially compared to the operations of the former Soviet Union, and have the potential to escalate conflict.
“The miscalculation piece is as high as it’s ever been,” General Williams said at the Association of the U.S. Army’s annual conference in Washington. “We could tumble into this thing [broader conflict with Moscow] because of the people that are currently snooping around Europe and causing mischief in all of our backyards.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and U.S. military officials as they assess the acts of incitement by Russian operatives.
- For U.S. and NATO leaders to be discerning as they seek to deescalate the chance of conflict.
