Emergency Grants Approved for North Carolina Hurricane Recovery

Labor Department funding to support disaster-relief jobs and training programs for recovery in 25 hard-hit counties.

The Department of Labor recently authorized up to $10 million in emergency grant funding to North Carolina to support disaster relief employment and training services in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The storm, which made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in Florida in late September, caused widespread devastation as it progressed inland, particularly in North Carolina, where it led to severe flooding, mudslides, and significant power outages affecting over a million residents.

“The Employment and Training Administration is committed to ensuring workers in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Helene have access to grant funding and assistance,” said Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training José Javier Rodriguez. “This Dislocated Worker Grant provides critical support by providing jobs to affected workers while helping North Carolina in its recovery efforts.”

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared a state of emergency and issued a major disaster declaration, allowing North Carolina to access federal resources to aid recovery efforts in 25 counties. The National Dislocated Worker Grant, funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, is designed to support individuals in these areas by offering temporary employment and skills development to help with the state’s recovery.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Assistant Secretary Rodriguez to be led by the Lord as he heads the Office of Employment and Training.
  • For Acting Labor Secretary Todman to be discerning as she oversees the allotment of emergency grant funding.
