The justices overturned the decision of a lower court without arguments or offering reasoning.
This week, the Supreme Court upheld a Pennsylvania law that bans 18- to 20-year-olds from openly carrying firearms publicly during a state of emergency, overturning a lower court’s decision to block the law.
Pennsylvania first implemented this law through its Uniform Firearms Act, first passed in 1995. Thirty-one states implemented similar laws during this timeframe. However, after the Supreme Court released its gun rights decision in Bruen in 2022, gun rights advocates began to bring legal challenges against these laws.
However, the 2022 decision has caused some confusion among lower courts. This has led the Supreme Court to take on several appeals regarding the gun rights decision, offering clarity on its previous opinion.
When the Pennsylvania government appealed to the Supreme Court earlier this year, the justices agreed to review the case without hearing arguments. After reading the documents provided at its October 11 conference, the Supreme Court overturned the circuit court’s ruling without any dissent and without publishing its reasoning.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for the justices of the Supreme Court as they determine whether they will hear arguments in the cases put before them.
- For Chief Justice Roberts to seek God’s direction as he presides over the high court.
