Where Are You Investing?
Jesus told the Laodicean church that, though they claimed to be rich, they were wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked (Revelation 3:17). They had invested only in earthly, rather than heavenly, wealth. According to Forbes, there were 735 billionaires in the United States in 2023 and reportedly 22 million millionaires. The number of wealthy is said to be increasing. However, the middle class has struggled in the years following the pandemic, as the cost of living has soared. Ron Blue & Co. reported in 2021 that 96 percent of evangelical giving was out of income, while 4 percent is from net worth. The category you belong to with regard to earthly riches has no bearing on your wealth in God’s kingdom. Take time to ponder today what and where you are investing. God calls you to be spiritually invested in what matters to Him. As C.T. Studd poetically wrote, “Only one life, ’twill soon be passed; only what’s done for Christ will last.”
