Department responds to Iran’s second direct attack on Israel.
The Department of the Treasury expanded its sanctions against Iran’s oil and petroleum industry on Friday, responding to the Islamic nation’s second direct attack against Israel on October 1. A variety of additional entities were also incorporated into the sanctions after the department identified a number of organizations and sea vessels continuing to do business with Iranian oil companies.
“Today’s sanctions target Iranian efforts to channel revenues from its energy industry to finance deadly and disruptive activity—including development of its nuclear program, the proliferation of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, and support to regional terrorist proxies—with dangerous consequences for the region and the world,” said Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. “We will not hesitate to take further action to hold Iran accountable.”
