Arrested Terror Suspect Worked as Former CIA Guard

The Afghan man was arrested for plotting an attack on U.S. Election Day.

The Department of Justice announced that an Afghan national was arrested in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, accused of planning to kill Americans on Election Day on behalf of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS). Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi worked for the CIA as a security guard in Afghanistan and came to the U.S. on humanitarian parole in 2021.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said, “As charged, the Justice Department foiled the defendant’s plot to acquire semi-automatic weapons and commit a violent attack in the name of ISIS on U.S. soil on Election Day.”

An administration official claimed the suspect was radicalized during his time in the U.S. “Every Afghan resettled in the U.S. undergoes a rigorous screening and vetting process no matter which agency they worked with,” the official said. “That process includes checking against a full range of U.S. records and holdings.”

DHS Secretary Mayorkas refused to answer questions about Tawhedi during a White House press briefing, stating that he was attending virtually from North Carolina and focused on search and rescue efforts after Hurricane Helene.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Attorney General Merrick Garland to be discerning as he heads the Justice Department.
  • For federal law enforcement and FBI investigators as they seek to prevent terrorist attacks.
  • For Secretary Mayorkas as he collaborates on recovery and relief efforts in North Carolina.
