Issue 666 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

Secretary of State Antony Blinken called the risk of escalation in the Middle East “acute” during a Guld Cooperation Council meeting in New York. He said the U.S. and allies are working to avoid outright war between Israel and the Iran-back, Lebanon-based Hezbollah. The secretary of state said, “The best answer is diplomacy, and our coordinated efforts are vital to preventing further escalation.”

Pray for U.S. diplomats as they engage leaders in regions experiencing conflict.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

A report from the Senate detailed the many Secret Service failures and lapses that occurred at the time of the first assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. The report described preventable issues such as a lack of planning to secure the building the gunman used, a lack of chain of command, lack of communication with state and local law enforcement, and inadequate use of equipment and resources.

Pray for federal legislators as they investigate the actions or inaction of executive agencies.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Representative Michael McCaul of Texas, has passed a resolution to hold Secretary of State Blinken in contempt for not honoring a subpeona to testify before the committee on the administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Pray for the chairs and members of committees to be discerning as they seek to hold administration officials accountable.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

The Department of Justice has charged an individual who made hundreds of threats of violence against six Supreme Court justices. “We allege that the defendant made repeated, heinous threats to murder and torture Supreme Court Justices and their families to retaliate against them for decisions he disagreed with,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland. “Our justice system depends on the ability of judges to make their decisions based on the law, and not on fear. Our democracy depends on the ability of public officials to do their jobs without fearing for their lives or the safety of their families.”

Pray for the safety of the Supreme Court justices and federal judges and for law enforcement officials as they seek to prevent harm coming to them.
