House Votes to Censure Administration for Afghanistan Withdrawal

The measure names the president, vice president, national security advisor, and secretary of state, among others.

The House of Representatives voted to censure the administration officials for its chaotic military withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021.

The action names President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, national security adviser Jake Sullivan, White House national security communications adviser John Kirby, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and many other prominent officials as being responsible for the withdrawal. This motion is the latest step taken by the House majority to highlight their critiques of the withdrawal, which killed 13 service members and 200 Afghans.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee is continuing its investigation into withdrawal, most recently voting to hold Secretary of State Blinken in contempt of Congress for not appearing at a recent committee hearing. The secretary has said he was unable to appear because of his busy travel schedule.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Speaker Johnson and leadership of the House as they prepare legislation and consider measures.
  • For administration officials as they craft foreign policy and defense strategies.
