Justice Department to Charge Suspect in Second Trump Assassination Attempt

Threatening the life of major political candidate could lead to a life sentence.

A prosecutor for the Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed on Monday that the department plans to charge the suspect found stalking former President Donald Trump in Florida with attempting to assassinate a political candidate.

Suspect Ryan Routh was arrested on September 15, shortly after a Secret Service agent spotted him holding a rifle while the former president was golfing at his West Palm Beach golf club. Since then, the Justice Department discovered that Routh had been stalking former President Trump for about a month and had written a document months prior calling for an assassination attempt on the presidential candidate.

Routh was arrested on two firearm-related charges, but prosecutors will request that a grand jury add an attempted assassination charge to his case. If Routh is convicted of an attempted assassination, he will likely face a life sentence in prison.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to safeguard the lives of all the presidential candidates, particularly former President Trump after this second assassination attempt was thwarted.
  • For wisdom and vigilance for the Secret Service agents as they guard the president, former presidents, and presidential candidates.
  • For DOJ officials to be prudent in their approach to prosecuting the suspect.
