Pentagon Awards Rocket Startup Ursa Major $12.5 Million

Grants a small contract for solid fuel rocket engine testing and production.

The Pentagon announced this month that it awarded a $12.5 million contract to the rocket building startup company Ursa Major, providing funding for the testing and production of a new solid rocket motor prototype. The contract, under the Defense Department’s Transition Acceleration Program of the Office of Strategic Capital, is relatively small compared to other weapons deals brokered by the U.S. military command center, many of which reach into the multi-billion dollar range.

This contract is one of the first awarded from the Office of Strategic Capital, a branch of funding meant to increase diversity within America’s defense supply chain. The private company’s design, manufacture, and testing of the motors will contribute toward the Advanced Manufacturing Pathfinder program. The Pentagon hopes that by fostering stronger partnerships with smaller private investments, more critical weapons technologies can be developed at a faster rate.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary Austin as he oversees the Defense Department.
  • For Pentagon officials as they promote public-private investments and develop partnerships with new contractors.
