Former Laser Welding Salesman Indicted for Illegal Exports to Russia

He was charged with falsifying records to sell products to a Russian government supplier.

A former laser welding machine salesman had been indicted in a federal court of Boston for conspiring to evade U.S. export laws put in place against the Russian government. Sam Bhambhani, who resides in Massachusetts, allegedly worked with a Russian citizen, Maxim Teslenko, to sell a global company’s products to a Russian nuclear company with known ties to Russian weapons manufacturing. He sold a number of laser welding machines using this method, falsifying the shipping documents necessary to transport the machines to Russia.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, the United States has heightened restrictions on the export of products that Russia could use in defense, aerospace, and maritime industries.

Teslenko was also charged in the indictment, though he is currently living in Moscow and not in U.S. custody. Bhambhani has pled not guilty.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. Justice Department officials to be discerning in their pursuit of charges against those who subvert sanctions and export controls.
  • For the federal judge to be prudent as the case is argued and testimony and evidence presented.
