First Lady and Defense Secretary Visit Alabama Air Force Base

The duo highlighted the programs that improve military quality of life and childhood education.

First Lady Jill Biden and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited a pre-kindergarten program on Friday at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama that provides universal preschool. The president intends to continue programs nationwide that are intended to improve the quality of life and early childhood education for families beyond military bases.

The first lady said, “If we want kids to succeed in school and their careers—if we want to set them on a lifelong path of learning—we need to invest in them from the very beginning.“

She continued, “Military kids at Maxwell Air Force Base, and at 80 military schools across the country and abroad, now have access to full-day pre-kindergarten,“ adding, “Providing universal pre-k is among the defining issues of our time.“
