Sherrod Brown
U.S. Senator from Ohio
Sherrod Campbell Brown was born in November 1952 in Mansfield, Ohio. He earned an undergraduate in Russian Studies from Yale University, and a master’s and Master of Public Administration from the Ohio State University at Columbus. He taught at the Mansfield campus of Ohio State for two years.
Brown served eight years as a representative at the Ohio House, and was later elected Ohio Secretary of State, a position he held for eight years. He spent the next 14 years as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives until his election to the U.S. Senate, where he assumed office in January 2007.
He is married to Connie Schultz. He has two children from his prior marriage to Larke Ummel and two stepchildren. He is a Lutheran and an Eagle Scout.

Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio is seeking more effective research on fentanyl traffickers and their methods. He recently requested information from the INTERDICT Science Center of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regarding how the center can better detect fentanyl and other synthetic opioids.
The senator cosponsored the FEND (Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence) Off Fentanyl Act earlier this year, which would increase sanctions on fentanyl traffickers. Creators of the chemicals used to make fentanyl would also face higher sanctions.
Senator Brown said last month, “One of the most effective ways to hurt the trade is to go after the money the cartels are making from this. Our bill does a number of things like blocking and freezing the assets of traffickers, allowing the Treasury Department to combat fentanyl-related money laundering and requiring the department to prioritize suspicious transactions related to fentanyl.”
