Other cases regarding the massive layoffs by CEO Musk after the Twitter takeover have been dismissed.
District Judge Susan Illston ruled this week that the social media platform X must face a lawsuit alleging it discriminated against former employees over the age of 50.
X CEO Elon Musk laid off more than half of the workforce during the platform’s transition away from Twitter in 2022. The company laid off 54 percent of employees younger than 50, 60 percent of employees 50 and older, and nearly 75 percent of employees over 60.
Over a dozen lawsuits were filed against the company for its mass layoffs, and X has attempted to get them all dismissed. Two separate judges dismissed cases alleging discrimination for sex and disability, but Judge Illston said the argument for age discrimination had merit.
“Plaintiff has shown beyond mere speculation that Twitter may have discriminated against older employees in the November 4, 2022 (mass layoff), which constitutes a single decision that affected all members of the proposed class,” Judge Illston wrote. She permitted the attorneys to notify members of the class action lawsuit and those who may qualify.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For federal judges to be prudent as they hear cases regarding civil rights and discrimination.
- For U.S. employers who have had to downsize due to the economy and inflation.
- For Americans who are seeking employment and struggling to make ends meet.
