Collaborative effort enhances preparedness for cyberattacks on critical infrastructure to increase Indo-Pacific security.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Government of Japan conducted a successful tabletop exercise last month to improve maritime cybersecurity and incident response capabilities. The exercise simulated a significant cyberattack on a Japanese port, testing the effectiveness of existing response strategies and fostering discussions on enhancing mutual preparedness for threats to critical interconnected infrastructure.
“Exercises like these bolster our nation’s capabilities and establish reliable channels for coordination with key international partners,” said DHS Under Secretary for Policy Robert Silvers. “Cyber attacks pose a shared risk, beyond any single nation’s control, making it imperative for the United States and Japan to collaborate in addressing these challenges to thrive in such interconnected environments.”
The exercise builds on Secretary Mayorkas’ priority to strengthen partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region, with discussions centered on incident response protocols, information sharing, and identifying future areas of bilateral cooperation to address emerging cyber threats.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For wisdom for Secretary Mayorkas as he pursues partnerships with Indo-Pacific nations.
- For Under Secretary Silvers to be led by the Lord as he heads the DHS Office of Policy.
