In the News…
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell endorsed the importance of the filibuster, warning that if it were removed, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia would be approved as states, creating a permanent political majority for the opposing party.
Senator McConnell said that, without the filibuster, “They’ll admit the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico as two new states… and then they’ll go after the Supreme Court.” He said the measure supports bipartisanship and eliminates “bad ideas.” The 82-year-old senator announced early this year that this would be his last term as a party leader in the Senate, but will serve out his current Senate term.
