Climate Envoy Podesta Visits China

He is meeting with his Chinese counterpart in the second round of climate negotiations.

The State Department announced that U.S. Climate Envoy John Podesta traveled to China on Wednesday to meet with his Chinese counterpart Liu Zhenmin for three days. This is the second round of formal climate talks between the two nations.

The two nations began negotiating on a U.S.-China climate agreement in November 2023 to address their respective emissions. However, vague language and disagreements on deadlines and global collaboration have made these negotiations slow-going.

After U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met recently, the State Department said, “They underscored the importance of concrete steps to tackle the climate crisis and welcomed further discussions.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken, Climate Envoy Podesta, and other U.S. diplomats as they seek to achieve climate goals.
  • For State Department officials to seek God’s guidance on foreign policy.
