NTSB Says Lax FAA Oversight Caused June 2022 Helicopter Crash

A pilot and five passengers were killed after a vintage “Huey” helicopter flight.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) reported this week that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provided “basically no oversight” over the use of a vintage helicopter, leading to the deaths of six people in 2022.

In Amherstdale, West Virginia, a pilot took five passengers for a ride aboard a “Huey” helicopter, a type of military aircraft used extensively during the Vietnam War. After a loss of engine power caused the helicopter to crash, killing everyone on board, the NTSB launched an investigation to discover the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

The board released the findings of its investigation, finding that the FAA approved the helicopter for use in the special event allowing the flight of Huey helicopters, even when its own assessment of the aircraft was “insufficient to ensure the airworthiness of the aircraft and operation,” the NTSB said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For NTSB Chair Homendy as she oversees the National Transportation Safety Board.
  • For FAA Administrator Whitaker to be led by the Lord as he heads the Federal Aviation Administration.
