Sellers must verify age of anyone under 30 years of age as of September 30.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced its final rule, under the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2019, that raises the minimum age to purchase tobacco products in the United States from 27 to 30. Beginning September 30, those who sell tobacco in any form, including e-cigarettes, must verify the photo ID of every purchaser under 30.
Director Brian King of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products stated, “Decades of science have shown that keeping tobacco products away from youth is critical to reducing the number of people who ultimately become addicted to these products and suffer from tobacco-related disease and death.”
He also said that the rule “is another key step toward protecting our nation’s youth from the health risks of tobacco products.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Commissioner Califf and FDA officials as they increase age restrictions on tobacco.
- For Secretary Becerra to seek God’s direction as he heads the HHS department.
