The president’s administration seeks to catch up to EV deployment goals with 51 projects.
President Joe Biden’s administration awarded $521 million to deploy more than 9,200 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports throughout the country. Forty-one community infrastructure projects will receive $321 million, while $200 million will fund 10 fast-charging stations along major travel corridors.
“Together, these programs have spurred private investments in growing the nation’s EV charging network and are actively deploying chargers across the country,” the Federal Highway Administration stated. “These historic investments are going to accelerate the country’s transition to a clean energy economy while reducing pollution and harmful greenhouse gas emissions.”
President Biden’s administration first allocated a total of $5 billion in 2021 to create an electric vehicle charging network in the United States. However, the rollout of the program has been much slower than anticipated, with the construction of 192,000 of the promised 500,000 charging ports completed thus far.
This slow rollout has garnered criticism from former President Donald Trump, state governors, and Congressional leadership.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretaries Granholm and Buttigieg as they collaborate on the EV charging infrastructure.
- For wisdom for U.S. energy and transportation officials as they endeavor to increase the charging port network nationwide.
