Surgeon General Murthy Issues Health Advisory for Parental Stress

He says parent mental health is a large contributor to youth mental health.

U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued a public health advisory on parental mental health this week, recommending governments and community organizations bolster support structures for parental mental health.

“Behind this youth mental health crisis is real crisis with parents, where many of them are struggling with profound stress and with their own mental health challenges,” Surgeon General Murthy said. “If you really want to help kids, one of the things you’ve got to do is actually help parents.”

With this public health advisory, the surgeon general proposed ways to improve mental health support for parents, such as increased paid sick time for employees, establishing a national paid family and medical leave program, and providing improved access to mental health care options.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for the surgeon general as he proposes support for parental mental health.
  • For Secretary Becerra to seek God’s wisdom as he heads the Department of Health and Human Services.
