Amy Klobuchar
U.S. Senator from Minnesota
Amy Jean Klobuchar was born in May 1960 in Plymouth, Minnesota. She received her undergraduate degree from Yale University and earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School. She worked as a corporate lawyer in private practice.
She was elected Henepin County attorney, serving there for eight years.
She was elected to the United States Senate, assuming office in January 2007. She was an early candidate from her party in the 2020 presidential primaries, but later withdrew.
She is married to John Bessler, and they have a daughter. Klobuchar is a member of the United Church of Christ.

The Senate passed bipartisan legislation, cosponsored by Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, to designate the bald eagle as the official national bird of the United States.
The senator’s office explained, “The bald eagle has proudly been depicted as the national symbol of the United States since June 20, 1782, when our country’s Founding Fathers at the Second Continental Congress approved the Great Seal of the United States. Since that time, the bald eagle design has gone on to appear on official documents, currency, flags, public buildings, sports teams, and other government-related items.“
“The bald eagle is a symbol of our country’s freedom and strength. In Minnesota, we are proud to call ourselves home to one of the largest populations of bald eagles in the country as well as the National Eagle Center in Wabasha,” said Senator Klobuchar. “Now that my bipartisan legislation has passed the Senate we are one step closer to officially designating the bald eagle as our country’s National Bird.”
