FDA Recalls Cases of Walmart Apple Juice for Arsenic Levels

Almost 10,000 cases of the 6-packs are under recall for arsenic levels that exceed federal standards.

The Food and Drug Administration updated the severity of a voluntary recall by Walmart of its six-packs of its Great Value branded apple juice. Due to levels of arsenic in the product exceeding the agency’s standards, the FDA updated its recall classification to “Class II,” which means the food products “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”

Walmart has thus far recalled nearly 10,000 cases of its 8-ounce apple juice packs, which is manufactured by Refresco Beverages US Inc. The juice has been sold in the eastern and central half of the U.S. There have been no reports of illness or adverse effects caused by the apple juice.

“The safety of consumers and the satisfaction of our customers are our top priorities. We are working diligently to address the situation,” a spokesperson for Walmart said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Commissioner Robert Califf as he heads the FDA and oversees product alerts.
  • For U.S. officials as they seek to prevent adverse health events due to food and drugs.
  • For consumers to be discerning and aware of recalls and respond appropriately.
