The attorney general speaks about the Guatemalan law enforcement arrest of six individuals.
The Department of Justice recently announced that six Guatemalan human smugglers were arrested by Guatemalan law enforcement. These individuals conspired to charge migrants or their relatives $12,000-15,000 for transport from Guatemala to the United States. Other members of this human trafficking network have been charged with the deaths of 53 migrants discovered in a Texas tractor-trailer in 2022.
“Over the past two years, the Justice Department has worked methodically to hold accountable those responsible for the horrific tragedy in San Antonio that killed 53 people who had been preyed on by human smugglers,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland. “With these arrests, the Justice Department and our partners in Guatemala have now arrested a total of 14 people for their alleged involvement in this tragedy.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Attorney General Merrick Garland to be prudent as he heads the Department of Justice.
- For federal prosecutors and law enforcement as they partner with foreign governments to prevent human trafficking.
