The congressman from New Jersey had a recent respiratory illness.
Representative Bill Pascrell of New Jersey passed away at the age of 87, his family announced on Wednesday.
“As our United States Representative, Bill fought to his last breath to return to the job he cherished and to the people he loved,” his family stated on his congressional social media account. “He is now at peace after a lifetime devoted to our great nation America.”
Congressman Pascrell had been repeatedly hospitalized over the summer with a respiratory illness, and was planning to run for reelection in November. Many of his peers expressed their condolences on his passing, including Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.
“Throughout his life, Bill proved to all of us what it means to live up to our New Jersey values,” Governor Murphy stated. “We send our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his wife, Elsie, as well as their three children — Bill, David, and Glenn — and six grandchildren.”
