U.S.Ambassador to Turkey

Jeffry Lane Flake was born in 1962 in Snowflake, Arizona. He earned an undergraduate and a master’s degree from Brigham Young University.

He was executive director of the Goldwater Institute, then won election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000. He served in the House until winning a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2012. He served in the upper chamber of Congress until 2019.

President Joe Biden nominated Flake as Ambassador to Turkey, the Senate confirmed him in September 2021, and he was sworn into his position in December 2021. 

He is married to Cheryl and they have five children. He is Mormon.

United States Ambassador to Turkey Jeff Flake spoke at a round table in Istanbul, Turkey, regarding the diplomatic efforts the U.S. is making in the region.

Ambassador Flake said, “We ask all of our allies that have any relations with Iran to prevail on them to de-escalate, and that includes Turkey.”

The U.S. ambassador said that Turkish representatives to Washington are “doing what they can to make sure that it doesn’t escalate.” He added that they “seem more confident than we are that it won’t escalate.”

Ambassador Flake also said that, despite Turkey’s anti-Israel stance, the United States’ relationship with Turkey is “in a better place than we’ve been in a while.”
