Issue 660 – Federal Branches

Praying for Our Leaders in Government

Executive Branch: Pray for the President and his Administration

The White House Council on Environmental Quality invited faith leaders and representatives of faith-based organizations from across the country to a discussion about President Biden’s climate, clean energy, and environmental justice agenda. Direct Pay is an opportunity, under the Inflation Reduction Act, that allows tax-exempt entities, including houses of worship, to benefit from federal clean energy tax incentives.

Pray for U.S. environmental officials as they engage faith leaders and representatives on climate issues.

Legislative Branch: Pray for Senators and Representatives in Congress

Senator Eric Schmitt of Missouri recently sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen regarding her pledge to give hundreds of millions to the World Bank’s global Pandemic Fund. He questioned the commitment, calling it another “attempt to fund unaccountable entities from the American taxpayer’s wallet.”

Pray for senators and representatives to be prudent as they consider the appropriation requests of federal agencies and provide oversight of funding.

PRAY FOR CONGRESSIONAL COMMITTEES

The House Judiciary Committee is seeking answers from the Department of Homeland Security regarding why Asif Merchant was allowed to enter the United States, despite being on the terror watch list. The letter also requested information on the assassination plotter’s immigration history.

Pray for the chair and members of the committee as they seek details on DHS’ methods surrounding national security.

Judicial Branch: Pray for Supreme Court Justices and Federal Judges

A federal judge decided that the alternate protest route offered to protestors by the city of Chicago does not infringe on their First Amendment rights. Four Palestinian-supporting groups, who plan to protest during the Democratic National Convention next week, requested an area closer to the venue in the belief that turnout will be larger than the city anticipates.

Pray for wisdom for federal judges as they issue rulings regarding the rights of free speech and assembly.
