Colonel Matt Caspers
Director, Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate
Matthew S. Caspers earned an undergraduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. He received a Masters of Science from each of the Air Force Institute of Technology, the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School, and the Joint Advanced Warfighting School.
Caspers has been an aeronautical engineer and served in flight test and program management assignments for the development, testing, and fielding of advanced aircraft weapon systems and technologies.
He has commanded at the squadron level and most recently served as the Deputy Commander of the 412th Test Wing. Caspers previously oversaw base operations support for Edwards Air Force Base and Air Force Plan 42 in Palmdale, California.

Colonel Matt Caspers, director of the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate recently spoke about the new ship-killing guided bomb that the Air Force tested in the Gulf of Mexico in July. Released by a B-2 bomber, the bomb, termed QUICKSINK by the laboratory, was tested on an empty cargo ship.
Colonel Caspers stated, “The development of this technology helps deliver technological superiority to ensure the United States can defend our interests, maintain freedom of action, and seize the initiative over large maritime areas,”
He added, “QUICKSINK is an answer to an urgent need to neutralize maritime threats to freedom around the world. This program is unique in that it can provide capabilities to modify existing and future DoD weapons systems, giving combatant commanders and our national leaders new ways to defend against maritime threats.”
