Interior Department Invests $52 Million to Plug Orphaned Oil and Gas Wells

The abandoned wells are located in Colorado, Illinois, and West Virginia.

The Department of the Interior announced a $52 million investment under the president’s Investing in America agenda to clean up orphaned oil and gas wells in Colorado, Illinois, and West Virginia. Colorado will receive $25 million to plug 106 orphaned wells and conduct further remediation at 200 sites. Illinois will use its $25 million grant to plug up to 460 wells, while West Virginia has been awarded $1.97 million to address 16 wells.

“Toxic orphaned oil and gas wells have plagued American communities for generations,“ said Secretary Deb Haaland. “Investing in America agenda is empowering states across the country to address this long-standing environmental injustice by making a historic investment to plug these wells, which will create jobs and revitalize local economies.“

This initiative aims to create jobs, promote economic growth, and protect public health and the environment from methane leaks.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
