National Hurricane Center expects the storm to bring another two to four feet of water to North Carolina.
Tropical Storm Debby passed through Savannah, Georgia, Wednesday morning, traveling 10 miles per hour back over the Atlantic Ocean for the rest of the afternoon. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) expects the tropical storm to make landfall again on Thursday in North Carolina, where it is forecast to bring 45 mph winds and dense rain to the coastline.
Storm surge will likely bring intense flooding to the area, as a “combination of storm surge and tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline,” the NHC said. The center predicts that flood waters could reach 2-4 feet above ground between South Santee River, South Carolina, and Cape Fear, North Carolina. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the area.
