Illegal fentanyl has become a leading cause of death for young adults.
President Joe Biden recently called for stricter security measures around pill presses and pill press importers, his latest focus in an effort to curb the production of illegal fentanyl.
The president stated, “This is a time to act. And this is a time to stand together – for all those we have lost, and for all the lives we can still save.”
Illegal fentanyl has become one of the primary points of focus for President Biden’s administration, and Vice President Kamala Harris is employing this focus in her presidential campaign. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the opioid has become the leading cause of death among Americans between the ages of 18 and 45, killing over 107,000 through drug overdose in 2023.
President Biden pledged to collect more information on illegal fentanyl production through the agencies of his administration. He has also increased U.S. collaboration with China to further his administration’s counter-narcotic initiative, working with the Asian country to curb the sourcing of chemicals necessary for illegal fentanyl production.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For discernment for the president and his advisors as they address the opioid crisis.
- For CDC personnel as they assess the health impact and compile overdose statistics.
- For U.S. import officials as they implement restrictions to reduce the flow of trafficked drugs.
- For Customs and Border agents as they seek to stop smugglers from transporting illicit substances into the nation.
