Two modules have been published to provide support for surviving family and friends.
The Department of Defense has developed a course to help the military community support the friends and families of loved ones who have committed suicide, publishing the two 45-minute modules online through Military OneSource. Developed by the Defense Suicide Prevention Office, the course offers a holistic way to guide survivors through grief while providing strategies to maintain an individual’s own support system.
“We know that anyone who is in close proximity to someone who dies by suicide is impacted,” said Andrew Moon, senior advisor for engagement, partnerships, and education in the Defense Suicide Prevention Office. “Even in a support role, even if you didn’t actively know the person but you’re supporting their family or their friends or their service members, you’re also impacted. And we want to make sure that everyone involved has the resources to keep them healthy and supported and moving forward.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Director Liz Clark as she heads the Defense Suicide Prevention Office.
- For Advisor Moon as he facilitates the support of families and friends of military personnel who commit suicide.
- That U.S. active duty and veterans would seek assistance for their mental health.
