Legislators Raise Concerns About Defense Spending

They question the costs the Defense Department pays contractors.

Members of Congress are seeking ways to rein in wasteful defense spending. During a recent congressional hearing, Representative Michael Waltz of Florida referenced how the interest on U.S. debt exceeds the entire defense budget. “We can’t afford it anymore,” the congressman said.

“The department has consistently failed comprehensive audits revealing significant problems in accounting and data management,” Representative Glenn Grothman of Wisconsin said during a recent oversight hearing. “The lack of financial accountability leads to waste and abuse of taxpayer funds.”

Representative Virginia Foxx of North Carolina said, “I’m very concerned that the department has grown so reliant on a shrinking number of commercial firms which stifles competition and leads to increased costs.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they seek to reduce wasteful defense spending.
  • For U.S. military officials as they determine where to invest taxpayer dollars.
  • For wisdom for senators and representatives as they consider the national debt and federal budget.
