DHS Extends and Redesignates Temporary Protected Status for Somalia

New guidelines provide protection and relief for Somali nationals amid ongoing conflict and humanitarian crises.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas recently announced an 18-month extension and redesignation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia. This decision was made due to the ongoing conflict, widespread insecurity, violence, and severe conditions such as flooding, food insecurity, disease outbreaks, and barriers to humanitarian aid in Somalia.

“Armed conflict and widespread insecurity have harmed and displaced civilians in Somalia for years, exacerbated today by the ravages of famine, disease, and extreme weather,” said Secretary Mayorkas. “Granting protection through Temporary Protected Status ensures that Somalis already in the United States can reside and work here while these deteriorated conditions in Somalia continue.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Mayorkas to seek God’s guidance as he oversees the Homeland Security Department.
  • For those who are seeking protection and relief from the ongoing conflict, violence, and humanitarian crises in Somalia.
  • For U.S. leaders and policymakers involved as they craft policies that impact vulnerable populations.
