Eligible projects include route extension and service enhancement.
The Department of Transportation has opened grant applications for intercity rail lines planning to expand or restore services along its existing routes. Over $153 million is available for eligible projects through the Restoration and Enhancement Grant Program, which can be used to cover a number of restoration expenses made within the first six years of an approved project’s launch.
“Safer, more frequent, and more accessible passenger rail services—made possible with funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law–will expand travel and commuting options, creating newly efficient and sustainable opportunities to get around the country,” said Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
