VA Commemorates Two Years of Improved 988 Hotline Use

The addition of Press 1 increased successful calls per day by 22.7 percent since 2022.

This week, Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough highlighted the increased use of the veterans’ crisis hotline, announcing that improved services have helped over 1.6 million veterans in the last two years. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) added a Press 1 function to its 988 emergency hotline in 2022, a move that increased successful calls per day by 22.7 percent.

“Two years ago, we made it even easier for Veterans in crisis and their loved ones to reach out for help by launching Dial 988 then Press 1,” said Secretary McDonough. “One Veteran lost to suicide is one too many. We’re supporting more Veterans than ever through the 988 initiative and will not rest in our continued efforts to spread the word that this resource is available and saves lives.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary McDonough to receive God’s wisdom as he oversees services to protect and support U.S. veterans.
  • For VA officials as they promote the hotline service to help veterans and their families in mental health crisis.
  • For officials in the president’s administration to perform their duty to those who served in the armed forces of this country.
