Pentagon Dismantles Gaza Temporary Humanitarian Aid Pier

Rough weather at sea plagued the project since its installation.

The Pentagon announced this week that the temporary humanitarian aid pier connected to Gaza will be permanently dismantled, putting an end to the troubled project promised by President Joe Biden.

Navy Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, deputy commander of U.S. Central Command, said that the floating structure’s mission “is complete. So there’s no more need to use the pier. The pier has done exactly what we intended it to do.”

Since its installation on May 17, the pier has transported over 20 million tons of humanitarian aid to Gazans impacted by the war against Hamas. However, due to rough seas, the pier was continually dismantled and reinstalled to avoid damage, resulting in only 20 total days of functionality over the past two months.

President Biden was “disappointed” with the results of the temporary pier, saying last week that he had hoped it would be as successful as the temporary pier the U.S. previously installed near Cyprus. The Pentagon will continue to send humanitarian aid to Gaza, routing it through the existing port in Ashdod, Israel.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Joe Biden and his administration as they consider strategies to bring about peace in Gaza.
  • That officials in the Pentagon are discerning in their efforts reduce civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict.
  • For the peace of Jerusalem and for the leaders of Israel and the Palestinian Authority as they discuss a possible ceasefire.
