Representative Boebert introduces legislation to defund Director Cheatle.
After the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump last Saturday, federal legislators have called for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. House Speaker Mike Johnson has urged President Biden to fire her due to the security failures at the campaign event.
Speaker Johnson said, “The oversight here, the mistakes, the ineptitude, whatever it is, was inexcusable. We almost lost the life of a former president. And I think there has to be accountability and it begins at the top. This is ridiculous.”
Representative Lauren Boebert introduced a bill in the House earlier in the week that would ban federal funding being used for the director’s salary or expenses. The congresswoman cited the assassination attempt was likely due to “intentional” negligence on the part of the Secret Service director.
