Congress Receives Security Briefing on Trump Assassination Attempt

House launches bipartisan task force to review briefing findings.

The House and the Senate received private security briefings from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Secret Service on Wednesday about the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, prompting the House to launch a bipartisan investigation into potential security failures that led to the event.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said the task force would “get down to the bottom of this quickly, so the American people can get the answers that they deserve.”

Since the assassination attempt, some legislators have called on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to step down. The director said Tuesday that she does not plan to leave her position. She is scheduled to testify before two separate House committees next week.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speaker of the House Johnson as he leads the House through this review process.
  • For officials in the Secret Service as they conduct their own review.
  • That the Lord guides Congress as they uncover the details around the event.
