Stranded on ISS for over a month after Boeing spacecraft malfunction
NASA astronauts Butch” Wilmore and Sunita Williams spoke with reporters on Wednesday, saying that in an emergency situation, they did feel their spacecraft was suitable for making a return from the International Space Station (ISS) back to Earth.
“We’re absolutely confident,” Wilmore said Wednesday.
“We’ve been through a lot of simulations…and I think where we are right now…I feel confident that if we had to, if there was a problem with the International Space Station, we could get in our spacecraft, we could undock, talk to our team and figure out the best way to come home,” Williams added.
Wilmore and Williams have been stranded on the ISS since June 6 after their spacecraft, the Boeing Starliner, experienced several mechanical issues, including helium leaks and a thruster malfunction. NASA says that the ISS has a number of supplies, and that their residency is not interrupting the station’s schedule.
