Senator Menendez pleaded not guilty to all 16 criminal bribery charges
After seven weeks of testimony, Senator Bob Menendez’s trial finally reached its closing arguments on Monday. After FBI agents raided the legislator’s home, discovering thousands of dollars in cash with his name on it, multiple gold bars, and a luxury vehicle in the garage, Menendez was charged with 16 federal crimes, including bribery, fraud, acting as a foreign agent for Egypt, and obstruction.
“It wasn’t enough for him to be one of the most powerful people in Washington. He also wanted to pile up riches for himself and his wife,” prosecutor Paul Monteleoni said in his closing argument in Manhattan federal court. “He sold all of that trust and all of that power for the benefit of [Wael] Hana and of Egypt for money and for gold.”
Senator Menendez has pleaded not guilty and has continued to perform his duties as the senator of New Jersey. While the majority of his peers have called for him to step down, Senator Menendez says that he plans to run for office again this election cycle.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- That the conclusion of this trial brings full justice to all parties involved.
- For Senator Menendez to seek God and to serve God to perform his duties with clarity and virtue.
- For the U.S. court system as civilians and the government trust in its decisions every day.
