The North Atlantic Treaty Organization Summit begins today in Washington, D.C. There will be a celebration of NATO’s 75th anniversary in the afternoon.
The conference, chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, will address security challenges facing the alliance and discuss ways to enhance responses to crises.
NATO members will also focus on the necessary steps it will take for Ukraine to obtain membership in the alliance.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke ahead of the conference about the need for Ukraine to be able to “stand on its own.“ He said that Ukraine needs a strong air defense system in order to succeed.
