The agency offers to cover a portion of financial losses for cow infection isolation.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced last week that it is opening applications for dairy farmers seeking financial compensation for bird flu prevention among their herds. Cows that are suspected to have the H5N1 viral strain are immediately removed from milk production for isolation and further testing. By providing proof of a confirmed H5N1 test, dairy farmers may apply to receive some financial compensation from the USDA to cover their product losses.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said, “When something unexpected, like H5N1, threatens the economic viability of the producers we serve, we are committed to finding ways, where we have the authority to do so, to revisit existing program policies and provide the financial support needed to help producers recover and sustain production.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Vilsack to be led by the Lord as he manages the USDA.
- For wisdom for USDA officials as they seek to reduce the H5N1 virus.
- For the dairy farmers and ranchers as they deal with the decrease in production due to the avian flu.
